Description

Long before Europeans came to the eastern coast of North America, more than a million Indians lived in what is now the southeastern United States. Most of what we know about them comes from the stories and drawings made by the early European explorers and settlers.

The Indians taught the Europeans how to survive, and how to grow corn and tobacco. But the Southeastern Indians were no match for the guns, armor, and diseases of the Europeans who came to their land. In the end, the Indians disappeared or were moved westward.
