Description

This updated, live-action re-creation of life and conditions in early America includes maps and period graphics to give the geographical and historical importance of the stagecoach in United States history. Stagecoach travel across the western frontier began in the middle 1850’s and became the fastest means of transportation in the West. The coaches carried mail, gold, passengers, and supplies between the eastern states and the western territories, including the new states of Texas and California. This three week journey depended upon the skill of the driver, a chain of way stations with fresh horses, and sturdy coaches built especially for the rough, frontier roads. The stagecoach aided in the rapid settlement of the west and left an enduring legacy in American history and culture.
