Description

This excellent film utilizes an imaginative character and story to introduce young children to basic properties and characteristics of light. One afternoon, a young woman named Sandy is painting on a pastoral hillside. Much to her surprise, she meets Trezlar, a small gnome–like “trogledyte.” He and his entire family have lived underground in the dark all of their lives. Trezlar is amazed by things he has never seen before … sunlight and all the beautiful colors of our world. Sandy takes Trezlar on a bike ride to a beautiful stream where she teaches him many lessons about light, including the following: light is energy from the sun; with a prism, light can be split into colors of the rainbow; light bounces off of smooth surfaces like water, or a mirror; light bends through water and glass; and light can be focused through a magnifying glass.
